Anna Maramba


Anna founded AV Communications together with Marvi in 2003 to fill the gap between mainstream advertising and the growing multicultural population of Canada. She oversees media, event management, and the company’s overall operations (Finance and Administration).
Before moving to Canada, Anna enjoyed a successful career as an interior designer for renowned firm Robarts Interiors & Architecture in their Beijing office. There she showcased her design expertise in their projects for the Netherlands Embassy, Scandinavian Airways, Nokia, International Monetary Fund (IMF), and AT&T among others.
Anna holds a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from De LaSalle University, and in Interior Design from the Philippine School of Interior Design. She also took courses at the Academy of Design, Toronto. When the opportunity for a business startup came, Anna decided to put her design career on hold and pursued a new career path using the skills and experiences she gained when she opened and ran a profitable gift boutique shop together with her sister and a friend during her university days back in the Philippines. Anna is a sought-after resource person, sharing her knowledge and opinion on multicultural topics at various interviews and conferences, including speaking at the Rotman School of Management Women in Business Leadership Symposium, and Women’s Immigrant Journeys Gala by the Working Skills Centre, Academy of Computer & Employment Skills.

Role and responsibilities at AV Communications:

  • Agency’s media and events watchdog, overseeing day-to-day operations

  • Ensures the agency delivers innovative media offerings and identifies media partnerships that add value
  • Oversees the efficient operations of the company’s human resources, IT and finance management

Marvi Yap


Marvi is one of the two founders of AV Communications. She oversees innovation, new business, client relations, and overall strategic and creative direction of the company.
Prior to establishing AV Communications, Marvi was co-founder of the highly successful Philippines-based Mega Magazine and Publications Inc. (now called One Mega Group), which currently has over 200 employees, 12 magazine titles, 7 digital properties and 2 subsidiaries that produce TV shows and manage events. Before immigrating to Toronto, she also founded Mega Pacific Graphic Design, an independent, award-winning graphic design agency in Manila, with multinational clients such as AT&T, Hewlett Packard, Standard Chartered Bank, Philips, and Mandarin Oriental Hotel, among others.
Marvi started her advertising career in FCB Manila, graduating 1st place in the agency’s well-respected ad school. She has a solid career in Account Management that spans 2 countries, 3 advertising agencies and servicing more than 30 blue chip accounts.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications, major in Broadcast Communications, from the University of the Philippines. She is a sought-after speaker, called on by various Canadian institutions and organizers to give insightful talks on multicultural marketing at conferences and industry events. She has been asked to judge at multicultural marketing awards shows for several years. She has been quoted by various publications and research groups, the latest of which are Migration Nation by Environics Research Group, and The Ace Principle, an inspirational/self-help book for Canadian Immigrants by Murali Murthy.
Marvi takes pride in seeing AV Communications, a company that started from co-founder Anna’s bachelor apartment in Etobicoke, blossom into an award-winning agency with blue chip clients, and now ranked as Canada’s top agency specializing in multicultural marketing.

Role and responsibilities at AV Communications:

  • Agency’s strategy and creative watchdog
  • Oversees account management team and closely works with support teams such as Creative Directors to ensure high quality output of the agency
  • Heads business development which consists of identification of prospective clients, innovative services and new profit streams
  • Ensures that the Agency’s services have a clear differentiation and edge over its competitors

Shaharyar Irfan

Business Development Lead

Shah is responsible for developing new business strategies for AVcommunications as well as manages some of the Agency’s major accounts.
He has over 10 years of experience in marketing, advertising and shopper marketing.
At AVcommunications, Shah has successfully handled global accounts and industry leaders such as Western Union, Cineplex, Elizabeth Arden, Estee Lauder, BMW and Toyota. He has spearheaded the development and execution of nationwide campaigns and instrumental in the continuous growth of existing accounts as well as acquisition of new ones. As a project lead, he oversees both digital and traditional campaigns and is accountable for its success.
As a new business lead, he takes an active role in responding to RFP’s. Recently, he led an RFP pitch for AMEX which involved managing the digital and creative team into successfully getting shortlisted.
Shah heads DAVE (Digital Avenue East), a Chinese media subsidiary of AVcommunications, focusing on WeChat advertising. He is responsible for client acquisition and overall business growth for this unit. He oversees product development, working closely with a Chinese content team.
Before moving to Canada, Shah was the marketing and advertising manager of Metro a leading retail chain in Pakistan where he was responsible for increasing sales through marketing, promotions, loyalty programs and merchandising.
Shah holds an MBA in Marketing at the Lahore School of Economics.

Joyce Lau

Media Lead

Joyce is a media strategist and planner at AVcommunications and has been a part of the agency for over 7 years. Her mandate is to turn media briefs into strategic, performance-driven campaigns in traditional, social and digital channels.
With her at the helm of our media services, AVcommunications was one of the early movers in embracing digital channels for multicultural campaigns. She keeps the agency digitally in-the-know by bringing in fresh and innovative ideas on how to turn mainstream media tools into an ethnic-smart targeting tool. Her strategic collaboration among various media partners have given the agency the edge to offer unique services that truly add value to our client’s business.
Aside from being a multicultural media expert, Joyce has relevant experience in heading major projects for the agency’s experiential division. From recruitment, to training to leading teams in multiple event activations in various ethnic festivals. This has given her the unique perspective of seeing how grassroots can be turned into a media channel and how both can be creatively integrated.
Prior to AV Communications, Joyce has always worked in a creative field. Her placements include running the operations of an architect-interior design firm and art gallery in Toronto. Joyce studied at Humber-Guelph and holds a Bachelor’s degree in Creative Advertising.

Zeno Lam

Creative Director

Zeno has over 25 years of experience working in the advertising and design industry. He has been with AVcommunications’ for over 10 years and as creative director, is responsible in overseeing all creatives meet high standards.
Prior to joining AVcommunications, Zeno worked in JWT Hong Kong. In addition to his solid experience in print, TV and graphic design, Zeno is a versatile digital professional – an adept videographer/ editor and a seasoned creator of online experiences. His versatility extends to writing insightful Chinese copy that has won creative awards.
Zeno’s technical skills include building websites with HTML5, PHP, Javascript. An avid follower of digital trends, he seamlessly adapts to the latest and greatest technology to create digital assets. From animated web banners to email blasts to responsive websites and online videos, his experience as a digital creative runs the gamut of all digital formats and platforms. He is responsible for the agency’s SEO.
Zeno is the lead behind many award-winning artworks from BMW, McCormick, Estee Lauder and World Vision. He has been part of the jury at several multicultural marketing award shows.

Loiee Pangan

Creative Director

Loiee is a whole-brain creative director. He ensures that the agency’s creative output is not only crisp, compelling and relevant, but strategically sound as well. Nothing escapes his critical thinking – in whatever language it may be. He has been with the AVcommunications for over 8 years.
Loiee began his advertising career 24 years ago in Lintas Manila and moved to Saudi Arabia as the agency’s copy and branding watchdog for Bozell.
Over the years, Loiee has sharpened his creative expertise to include digital copy and content generation. He works closely with the digital team to make sure that SEO strategies are considered when writing for online channels.
Aside from being AVcommunication’s copy chief, Loiee makes killer presentation decks, stitches interesting social media videos and constructs larger than life product mock-ups. He likewise was part of the team that won awards for some of the agency’s digital projects such as Western Union’s “5 for 50” campaign that won the prestigious Cassies.
